Desert Springs

An international award winning family leisure resort and golf club located in the South East of Spain. The resort is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery yet only 10 minutes from the coast. The Almanzora valley has the warmest, sunniest and driest winter climate in Europe. In the summer months temperatures on the small plateau of Desert Springs are tempered by a soothing afternoon breeze.

The Almanzora valley is surrounded by an infinite vista of vivid mountain ranges; the golden Sierra Cabrera, the orange Calabres, the black Almagreras and beyond the purple Seguras lie the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. This is a dramatic backdrop to long golden beaches, small fishing villages, busy market towns and white pueblos dotting the hills.

Good motorway links make the resort easily accessible, approximately 60 minutes from Almeria airport, 90 minutes from Murcia and two hours from Alicante

The House

This luxurious end of terrace townhouse is furnished to a high standard and equipped with modern appliances. The bright and airy living/dining room contains a comfortable sofa and easy chairs together with a dining table and chairs. The terrace has patio furniture offering alfresco dining.

The fully fitted kitchen has an oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, coffee machine, toaster and kettle. There is ample cutlery, crockery and drinkware including acrylic for use by the pool.

The two bedrooms, each sleeping two people, have fitted wardrobes. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, bidet, washbasin and wc. There is a large balcony off this bedroom with a table and chairs set up for morning coffee or a sunset drink. The fully tiled main bathroom includes shower, bidet, wc and washbasin. On the ground floor there is an additional cloakroom.

The property overlooks the communal pool and children`s splash pool, the driving range and practice area of the Indiana course. The private patio is ideal for lazy lunches or evening drinks. There is a very private roof solarium at the top of the house with uninterrupted views across the development to the mountains beyond.

Though in a very quiet and safe location the house is only a couple of minutes walk from the clubhouse, first tee, crocodile club, on site shop and is adjacent to the practice area.

Golf

The Indiana course is the first desert course in Europe and has been built to full USGA specifications and quality standards to match those of the famous desert courses of Arizona and California. The course has unforgettable views and dramatic golf with volcanic rock beds and cacti for hazards. The upkeep of the course is outstanding with fairways and greens that can only be described as manicured. A great test for golfers of all standards and an unforgettable experience.

There is a stunning practice area conveniently located next to the La Fuente development. This includes a putting green, driving range and chipping area. Lessons are available from the resident professional.

For those who would like to play other golf courses, Valle del Este and Marina Golf, both full 18 hole challenging courses, are within a 20 minute drive.

There is a set of right handed clubs in the house which guests may use.

The Resort

In addition to the pool in front of the house, for the exclusive use of La Fuente residents, there are plenty of activities for the non golfer. There is a Day Spa, the El Torrente clubhouse and restaurant, the Crocodile Club with bars, restaurant, tennis, paddle, gymnasium, free form swimming pool and children`s play areas. For the fitness enthusiast there is the Daley Thomson designed trim trail.

The Area

Close by is the pretty fishing village of Villaricos with its two small harbours and a selection of bars and restaurants. There is an excellent quiet beach on the edge of the village with its own Chiringuito. Along the coast is the fishing port of Garrucha with a wide variety of bars and restaurants, some serving the world renowned Garrucha Prawns (check the price before you order!).

A little further along are the lovely beaches of Mojacar Playa with a huge selection of bars, restaurants, beach bars and entertainment. Along the way you will pass the water park at Vera, a must for children of all ages. Up on the hillside, seeming to cling to the mountain, is the charming white town of Mojacar with fantastic views around the Moorish fortress at the top of the town.

Only a little further afield, on the south eastern tip of Spain, is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, a huge protected coastal area with spectacular cliffs, dunes, beaches and desert flora and fauna. There are little towns dotted along the coast with beaches, restaurants and bars while the Salinas de Cabo de Gata salt extraction lagoons have flocks of pink flamingos.

An hour away is the Moorish influenced city of Almeria with the Alcazaba Palace, Cathedral, Boulevards, Port and shopping. Much closer to Desert Springs in the town of Vera there is a huge Saturday market, just one of many in the region.

Just north of Almeria at Tabernas is the Mini Hollywood theme park of Oasys. This re-creation of the wild west of America is where many films were made in the 60`s and 70`s. There are live shows, a wild west saloon, film museum, bar, restaurant, swimming pool and childrens play area.

Getting There

The resort is easily accessible from three airports in south eastern Spain. All are directly linked to the motorway network which is less than 15 minutes away from Desert Springs. This is relaxing driving on uncrowded roads. Car hire is desirable both to travel to the resort and to access off site shopping, bars, restaurants and beaches.

Flights

Almeria is 60 minutes away, Murcia 90 minutes and Alicante 120 minutes travelling at moderate speed in a typical hire car. EasyJet and RyanAir have a large number of flights from various UK airports whilst British Airways fly to Alicante. In addition there is Bmibaby, FlyThomasCook, Jet2.com and FlyMonarch.com.
